MORE TROUBLE FOR ALBUQUERQUE’S ANIMAL WELFARE AGENCY. DIRECTOR PAUL CASTER HAS RESIGNED. HE WAS HIRED IN 2015 TO REPLACE BARBARA BRUIN, WHO LEFT AFTER IT WAS DISCOVERED SHE ALLOWED POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DOGS TO BE ADOPTED.
THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS CASTER IS ACCUSED OF FIRING, DISCIPLINING AND DEMOTING SOME TOP LEVEL STAFF. TWO OF THOSE EMPLOYEES FILED A WHISTLE BLOWER LAWSUIT ON SEPTEMBER 27TH AGAINST ALBUQUERQUE. THEY SAY CASTER DEMOTED THEM FOR SPEAKING UP ABOUT MALFEASANCE AT THE AGENCY.
CASTER WAS DEFENDED BY CITY OFFICIALS WHO CLAIMED HE WAS IMPROVING THE ANIMAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT. NO IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN NAMED.
