NM State Furloughs Scheduled Before July

Talk of furloughs for state workers continues to circulate in Santa Fe. Governor Martinez has said furloughs could be coming as the state deals with its budget woes. Now the Santa Fe New Mexican is reporting that representatives of the Governor’s Office have told union leaders that the Governor might impose five days of unpaid furloughs before the end of next month.

Union members and democrats dispute the need for the furloughs, saying the state has enough money to keep everyone working until the start of the next budget year in July.
