Santa Fe voters won’t decide the fate of their Mayor’s soda tax until May 2nd. But the battle over the proposed tax is getting expensive. Online campaign finance statements indicate both sides of the issue are putting a lot of money into it. Pre-K for Santa Fe, the group made up of tax supporters, has raised $103,000. The group against the tax, Better Way For Santa Fe and Pre Pay, has raised $800,000.
Many Santa Fe residents don’t trust City Hall to manage the tax money properly. The proposal would add a 2 cents tax to each ounce of a sugary beverage.
