April 19th’s Pets of the Week

Our two sweet boxer mixes featured last week are wishing for an Easter miracle…. to find their forever homes. They are ready to meet your at our Eastside Shelter.

At the moment we have several dogs in our shelter that had physical injuries that have caused them to loose a limb or they were in need of more than routine physical care before they became available for adoption. Thankfully we have wonderful veterinarians and staff in our clinic that go the extra mile so to speak to take care of the surgical/medical needs for these animals. After a bit of extra time to heal and follow up care they are put in the kennels for adoption. Having the opportunity to spend time with these dogs it is a lesson in grace watching the resilience of these lovely creatures. In no time they are back to being playful, loving and beautiful dogs just hoping to find their forever families. Since this week is Spring Break, it has been quite busy at our shelter. We have had many families coming in looking for puppies. It is a celebration when each animal is adopted but we want to feature two of the dogs that came in needing the care and expertise of our vets and clinic staff. They may not look absolutely perfect like a brand new puppy. Our featured pets this week have beautiful temperaments and are beautiful looking dogs too. They just have a bit more character as my father would say. Suede and Cooper may have initially had a sad story to tell but now after care and healing they are ready to start a happier chapter of their lives.

Suede (ID# A 1692362) is a 3 year old, female, red merle Queensland Heeler mix. She weighs 50 pounds. This dear girl was brought to our shelter with two gun shot wounds. As you can imagine she was scared and shy but very friendly. She was treated and is healing well. When you meet her you will notice her fur is a little bare were the wounds were. Soon it will grow back and fill in to match the rest of her soft and strikingly pretty coat. Our volunteer photographers took a lovely picture of Suede. You will notice she has one amber eye and one part blue and amber eye, so pretty. Suede is a calm and easy going girl. She is easy on leash and really enjoys her daily walks. She is calm, quiet and well behaved in her kennel. She should be easy to house train and is one of our potty brigade dogs. She is a very affectionate girl. She loves to be petted and snuggles with her head against your chest. After her walk she especially enjoys a good belly rub. Suede is a popular girl with our staff and volunteers. On occasion she can be a bit shy around a new noise. Suede will be a devoted companion and very best friend. We think Suede would be happiest in a calmer home. She also should be an only dog as other dogs frighten her. After the trauma that occurred when she was shot this girl deserves to be the only dog receiving all the love, kindness and comfort of a home her with her new parents. Come meet this sweet and easy going beauty at our Eastside shelter.

Cooper (ID# A 1692154) is a 2 year old, male black and tan German Shepherd mix. He weighs 70 pounds. Cooper came to us with wounds and an injury/deformity of his right rear paw. Xays revealed that Cooper needed to have his leg amputated. Cooper has just been amazing. He is healing nicely and does not know he is missing a leg. We were not able to get a new picture for Cooper early this week as he was wearing his cone but is intake picture still shows he is a beautiful boy. He is so much happier without the cone. Now that he has more freedom to move we have learned that Cooper is just a big puppy. He enjoys taking a walk but this frisky puppy could use a little training. Bring him to the free training class that accompanies your adoption. You and Cooper will be the best of walking partners quickly. Cooper is friendly outgoing and very playful. He has a softer very affectionate side too. He loves to be petted and is pretty good with the brushing of his lovely soft coat.  Staff, volunteers and customers are drawn to Cooper and enjoy spending time with him. We have been quite surprised that Cooper has not been adopted yet. Cooper is ready and waiting for a family. He would love to share in all the usual activities and will do just fine, let him show you just how well he does.  Come meet Cooper at our Eastside shelter. He will amaze you and we bet it will be love at first sight.
