SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) A group of cadets say they feared the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy was encouraging them to cheat after the director and other instructors gave cadets answers to exams. KOB-TV reports that the letter sent by anonymous cadets from a June 2013 class says they were routinely given answers to exams before taking them and cadets were worried about being seen as cheater. The letter asks Gov. Susana Martinez and academy board member Nate Korn to look into the policy.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Tony Lynn says everything on tests is taught.
The news comes as the academy faces scrutiny over recent proposed changes to its curriculum critics say gives officer more leeway on using deadly force. Director Jack Jones also told a reporter he'd rather burn the curriculum than release it publically.
