Former Espanola City Councilor sentenced

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A former Espanola City Councilor was sentenced to 6-years in prison Thursday after pleading no contest to charges that led to a sheriff’s conviction. 43-year-old Phillip Chacon has already been jailed for 5 years awaiting resolution of aggravated assault counts and probation violation. Rio Arriba County Sheriff James Lujan had been jailed trying to help Chacon evade police after he struck a man with his truck following a 2022 roadside brawl. Chacon is being given credit for time served, and will remain in prison one more year.
