Mescalero confronted by ICE agent

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The southern New Mexico tribal community of Mescalero is disturbed over federal immigration agents confronting its members. The Mescalero Apache President said they confirmed one report of an ICE agent approaching a tribal member in Ruidoso, speaking to her in Spanish, and asking for a passport. The president said the woman showed the agent her driver’s license and tribal ID card and the agent ended his questioning. Tribal leaders say encounters like this are raising fears within their community.
