Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Today federal Judge Adrienne Nelson temporarily halted a proposed merger between supermarket giants Kroger and Albertsons. In 2022 the two stores proposed what would be the largest grocery store merger in U.S. history. Federal regulators have argued that combining the two chains would be bad for consumers and workers by eliminating competition. However, the companies say a merger would help them better compete with big retailers like Walmart, Costco and Amazon. Together, the companies employ around 710,000 people.
