APS parents stick with schedule

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APS parents have made their feelings known in response to a recent survey by the district, asking if they should push back school’s start to late August when temperatures are cooler. Nearly 13,000 people responded, with 78% voting to keep the early August start date versus late August for the next two school years. Many parents stated they don’t support a later start, saying kids getting out of school in June would overlap with sports schedules. When asked about replacing swamp coolers with air conditioning units, the district said, it’s possible, but it’s also tens of millions of dollars per school, because those projects would also require electrical and roof upgrades.
