Plutonium pits on-site were a violation

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A federal judge in South Carolina has ruled the Los Alamos National Laboratory violated the law when they decided to produce plutonium pits on-site without considering the environmental impacts. The judge says the Lab did not consider possible alternative sites. The first of 80 proposed plutonium pits was certified by the nuclear security agency just this week. A lawsuit to stop their construction was brought by several environmental groups. The pits are used in the production of nuclear weapons material.
