Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) announced Monday it is accepting applications for a Clean Transportation Fuel Advisory Committee. The Committee is tasked with providing input on rules to implement the state’s Clean Transportation Fuel Standard.
Passed as House Bill 41 earlier this year, the Clean Transportation Fuel Standard authorizes development of a clean fuels program. This program allows producers and importers of low-carbon transportation fuels to generate clean fuel credits, which they can sell to producers and importers of high-carbon transportation fuels.
As part of program development, House Bill 41 directs the Environment Secretary to create and convene a Clean Transportation Fuel Advisory Committee. This committee will inform the rules that will govern the state’s clean fuels program and periodically review the program’s function over time.
Per House Bill 41, the Clean Transportation Fuel Advisory Committee will ensure participation from transportation fuel producers and distributors, utilities, environmental protection groups, environmental justice groups, Tribal and local government representatives, and others with relevant experience and/or interest to create a successful clean fuels marketplace.
NMED is accepting applications for the Clean Transportation Fuel Advisory Committee now through May 31, 2024, at https://ctfs.env.nm.gov. As part of their submissions, applicants must submit a statement of interest and resume, and commit to participating in at least four Clean Transportation Fuel Advisory Committee working sessions through September 2024. NMED also plans public outreach and engagement meetings in which the Advisory Committee members will be encouraged to participate.
