A Dozen Firefighters Injured in Explosion

A TERRIBLE EXPLOSION ON WEDNESDAY AT A FIREWORKS STORAGE AREA NEAR THE ROSWELL AIRPORT…SENDING A HUGE PLUME OF BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE UPWARD INTO THE SKY. AND LT. MARK SORIANO WITH STATE POLICE SAYS SEVERAL FIREFIGHTERS WERE HURT. HE SAYS A DOZEN FIREFIGHTERS INSIDE THE BUILDING WERE INJURED, TWO OF THEM LATER AIRLIFTED TO A TRAUMA CENTER FOR LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. THE 10 OTHERS WERE TREATED AT THE SCENE FOR MINOR INJURIES.

SORIANO SAYS THE FIREFIGHTERS WERE PACKAGING FIREWORKS FOR ROSWELL’S UPCOMING FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION WHEN THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED.

THE COMMUNITY GATHERED WEDNESDAY NIGHT TO PRAY FOR THE VICTIMS. AUTHORITIES ARE NOW TRYING TO PINPOINT WHAT CAUSED THE BLAST.
