A JEMEZ SPRINGS TREATMENT CENTER FOR CATHOLIC PRIESTS, WHICH CLOSED YEARS AGO, IS BEING SUED. THE SERVANTS OF THE PARCLETE HAS BEEN NAMED IN FOUR LAWSUITS FILED THURSDAY BY ANONYMOUS PLAINTIFFS.
THEIR ATTORNEYS SAY THE FACILITY TREATED KNOWN PEDOPHILES BUT DIDN’T PREVENT THEM FROM WORKING WITH CHILDREN AFTER, AND SOMETIMES DURING, TREATMENT. THE LAWSUITS ALLEGE THE PARCLETE DID NOT INFORM PARISHIONERS, FAMILY MEMBERS OR LAW ENFORCEMENT WHEN IT PLACED A KNOWN PEDOPHILE IN ANOTHER COMMUNITY.
THE CENTER CLOSED IN THE 1990S, BUT THE ORGANIZATION REMAINS ACTIVE ELSEWHERE.
