THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WE USUALLY HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT WILDFIRE DANGER IN NEW MEXICO. WITH ABUNDANT SNOWFALL OVER THE WINTER…AND A WETTER THAN NORMAL SPRING…THE FIRE DANGER IN NEW MEXICO ISN’T NEARLY AS HIGH AS IT USUALLY IS THIS TIME OF YEAR.
RICH NADEN IS A METEOROLOGIST WITH THE SOUTHWEST COORDINATION CENTER IN ALBUQUERQUE. HE SAYS WE’RE IN GOOD SHAPE WITH A LOWER FIRE DANGER THIS YEAR. NADEN SAYS THE FIRE DANGER STATEWIDE IS PROBABLY AS LOW AS IT’S BEEN IN 15 YEARS.
HE SAYS THE 2019 MONSOON SEASON COULD BE A LITTLE LATE…NOT STARTING UNTIL MID-JULY…BUT IT SHOULD BE CONCENTRATED MORE ON NEW MEXICO THAN NEIGHBORING ARIZONA.
