Security Increased After Councilors Threatened

THE VOTE THIS WEEK TO APPROVE 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO HELP ASYLUM SEEKERS SENT TO BERNALILLO COUNTY FROM THE BORDER HAS LED TO CITY COUNCILORS GETTING THREATS. THOSE THREATS CAME EITHER BY PHONE OR EMAIL, AND THEY LED TO HIGHER SECURITY BEING USED NOW TO PROTECT COUNCILORS AND THEIR STAFF.

THE FUNDING IS TO HELP HOUSE THE ASYLUM SEEKERS FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE THEY’RE SENT TO THEIR SPONSORS ELSEWHERE. THE THREATS WERE SENT OUT WEDNESDAY MORNING.
