IT IS DONE. THE ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT VOTED TO APPROVE 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO HELP IMMIGRANTS SEEKING ASYLUM WHO ARE TEMPORARILY STAYING IN THE CITY BEFORE GOING ON TO THEIR SPONSORS ELSEWHERE. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS MORE THAN 22-HUNDRED MIGRANTS HAVE BEEN BUSED INTO ALBUQUERQUE AND HAVE BEEN PUT UP BY FAITH-BASED AND OTHER GROUPS SO FAR.
THERE WERE PEOPLE SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE FUNDING, BUT NOW THE CITY COUNCIL’S APPROVAL OF THE MONEY MEANS THE KELLER ADMINISTRATION CAN APPLY THE 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO GRANTS AND CONTRACTS FOR THE GROUPS THAT ARE WORKING WITH MIGRANTS.
MAYOR KELLER MADE A STATEMENT AFTER THE VOTE THAT THE FUNDING FOR MIGRANTS WILL NOT STALL OTHER CITY PROGRAMS.
