Albuquerque City Council to Consider Asylum Seeker Funds

THE ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE ACTION ON THE PROPOSAL TO SPEND 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO HELP ASYLUM SEEKERS IN THE CITY. THE IDEA HAS ITS DETRACTORS, BUT ALSO SUPPORTERS. ONE OF THOSE IS JIM GANNON, THE C-E-O OF CATHOLIC CHARITIES IN ALBUQUERQUE.

GANNON SAYS IT WAS THE GOVERNMENT THAT PUT THESE PEOPLE HERE AND PUBLIC MONEY SHOULD BE SET ASIDE TO HELP THE ASSISTANCE EFFORT. BEYOND THAT, GANNON SAYS THE COMMUNITY NEEDS TO STEP FORWARD. HE SAYS SOMEONE HAS TO STEP IN AND HELP THESE PEOPLE.

THE PROPOSAL TO SPEND 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS IS EXPECTED TO SEE IMMEDIATE ACTION AT MONDAY NIGHT’S CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
