THE FACULTY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO’S MAIN CAMPUS SEEM TO WANT A UNION … AND THEY COULD GET IT. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS THEY MET ON TUESDAY IN POPEJOY HALL TO DISCUSS FORMING A UNION … AND MORE THAN 100 FACULTY ATTENDED THAT MEETING. SOME OF THE TEACHING STAFF FROM UNM’S BRANCH CAMPUSES ALSO ATTENDED, AND IF THEY COULDN’T, THEY SENT LETTER EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR A FACULTY UNION.
ON MONDAY, LAWYERS FOR BOTH UNM AND THE UNITED ACADEMICS OF THE UNIVERSITY MET BEFORE THE SCHOOL’S LABOR BOARD … BUT FACULTY PETITIONED THE BOARD TO FORM A UNION. AND VOTE IS SET FOR NEXT FALL.
