Fire Danger Time for NM

THERE’S A HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER IN NEW MEXICO DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY. AND STATE OFFICIALS ARE ENCOURAGING NEW MEXICANS TO PREPARE AS WILDFIRE SEASON GETS UNDERWAY. SINCE THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, 74 WILDFIRES HAVE BURNED MORE THAN 7-THOUSAND ACRES ON STATE AND PRIVATE LAND. AND STATE FORESTER LAURA MCCARTHY SAYS 99 PERCENT OF THOSE FIRES HAVE BEEN HUMAN CAUSED.

MCCARTHY SAYS EVEN THOUGH NEW MEXICO HAS RECEIVED A LOT OF RAIN AND SNOW, MUCH OF THE STATE IS STILL EXPERIENCING ABNORMALLY SEVERE DROUGHT CONDITIONS.
