Two NM Universities Raise Tuition

TUITION IS GOING UP AT NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY. IT’LL ALSO BE HIGHER AT HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY IN LAS VEGAS. NEW MEXICO.

NMSU IS DEALING WITH A BUDGET SHORTFALL OF 3-POINT-8 MILLION DOLLARS, MOSTLY DUE TO DECLINING ENROLLMENT IN PAST YEARS. THE NMSU BOARD OF REGENTS APPROVED A 6 PERCENT INCREASE IN TUITION ON FRIDAY. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS OFFICIALS SAY SCHOLARSHIPS AND TUITION DISCOUNTS REDUCED WHAT MOST STUDENTS SPENT THERE. THE TUITION HIKE WILL ALLOW NMSU TO RAISE EMPLOYEE SALARIES, AMONG OTHER THINGS.

AT HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY, THE TUITION WAS RAISED 3 PERCENT IN ORDER TO PAY FOR NEW PROGRAMS AND RAISES FOR STAFF AND FACULTY.
