THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS RELEASED A NEW REPORT COMPARING THE STATE’S HEALTH WITH THE REST OF THE NATION. STATE EPIDEMIOLOGIST, DOCTOR MICHAEL LANDEN SAYS, IN 2017, WE HAD LOW RATES IN FIVE LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH, ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE, STROKE, HEART DISEASE, INFLUENZA AND CANCER.
LANDEN SAYS NEW MEXICO HAS THE 7TH LOWEST CANCER DEATH RATE, WHICH HE SAYS A VERY GOOD AND A GOOD INDICATION THAT NEW MEXICO’S HEALTH IN THAT AREA IS RELATIVELY GOOD. HOWEVER, WE DIDN’T FAIR SO WELL IN A NUMBER OF OTHER AREAS SUCH AS ALCOHOL-RELATED DEATH, SUICIDE, AND DRUG OVERDOSE DEATHS.
