IT COULD COST MORE FOR SOME STUDENTS TO ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO NEXT YEAR. ACCORDING TO THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL, A BUDGET PROPOSAL FOR THE MAIN CAMPUS CALLS FOR STUDENTS TO SEE THEIR COSTS GO UP BY ANYWHERE FROM TWO TO FIVE AND A HALF PERCENT, DEPENDING ON THEIR COURSE LOAD.
THERE WILL BE NO ACROSS-THE-BOARD TUITION INCREASE. STUDENTS TAKING ADVANCED COURSES WOULD SEE MORE OF AN INCREASE THAN THOSE TAKING LOW LEVEL COURSES. THE BUDGET ALSO CALLS FOR A TWO PERCENT PAY HIKE FOR ALL UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES.
THE LEGISLATURE HAD RECOMMENDED A FOUR PERCENT SALARY INCREASE.
