THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATURE GIVES FINAL APPROVAL TO A BILL REMOVING CRIMINAL HISTORY QUESTIONS FROM INITIAL JOB APPLICATIONS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. THE 45-TO-15 HOUSE VOTE SENDS THE MEASURE TO THE GOVERNOR’S DESK. ALL REPUBLICANS WHO WERE PRESENT FOR THE VOTE OPPOSED THE BILL.
A SIMILAR MEASURE WAS VETOED BY FORMER GOVERNOR SUSANA MARTINEZ IN 2017. SO CALLED “BAN THE BOX” REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN APPROVED IN AT LEAST 11 OTHER STATES.
