REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS HAVE DELIVERED TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE PETITIONS TO OVERTURN THE BILL THE GOVERNOR HAS SIGNED TO EXPAND BACKGROUND CHECKS ON GUN PURCHASES. SECRETARY OF STATE MAGGIE TOULOUSE OLIVER NOW HAS 10 DAYS TO APPROVE THE PETITIONS BEFORE THEY CAN BE CIRCULATED TO THE PUBLIC.
IF THE PROCESS GOES FORWARD, MORE THAN 70-THOUSAND SIGNATURES WOULD BE NEEDED TO GET THE REPEAL ON THE BALLOT. OPPONENTS OF THE MEASURE, INCLUDING MOST SHERIFFS IN THE STATE, SAY THE LAW WOULD BE UNENFORCEABLE.
