Bill Strikes Down Right-to-Work Laws

THE NEW MEXICO SENATE HAS PASSED A BILL THAT STRIKES DOWN RIGHT TO WORK LAWS APPROVED BY COUNTIES. THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN REPORTS THAT 10 OF THE STATE’S 33 COUNTIES HAVE ADOPTED LAWS THAT SAY EMPLOYEES CANNOT BE COMPELLED TO PAY FEES TO A LABOR UNION TO REPRESENT THEM.

THE SENATE VOTE WAS 23-19, WITH THREE DEMOCRATS JOINING 16 REPUBLICANS IN VOTING “NO.” DEMOCRATIC SENATOR JOSEPH CERVANTES OF LAS CRUCES SAYS ONLY THE STATE CAN AUTHORIZE RIGHT TO WORK LAWS.
