NEW MEXICO IS CLOSER TO HAVING A RATHER UNIQUE COURSE OFFERED IN SCHOOL. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTS THE SENATE EDUCATION COMMITTEE VOTED LAST FRIDAY TO MOVE FORWARD THE CIRCUS ARTS BILL.
THE LEGISLATION WOULD SET ASIDE 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE P-E-D TO ESTABLISH THE PROGRAM TEACHING THINGS SUCH AS TRAPEZE, AERIAL FABRICS, JUGGLING, CLOWNING, GIANT PUPPETRY AND STILT-WALKING. THE BILL IS SPONSORED BY STATE SENATOR NANCY RODRIGUEZ.
REPUBLICANS HAVE EXPRESSED OPPOSITION TO THE BILL.
