STATE POLICE SAY A SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD IS SAFE FOLLOWING AN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING WEDNESDAY MORNING IN DONA ANA COUNTY. THE BORDER PATROL INITIATED A PURSUIT AFTER A VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AT A CHECK POINT ON I-25. WHEN THE CHASE ENDED, POLICE SAY THE MALE SUSPECT ARMED HIMSELF WITH A GUN AND BARRICADED HIMSELF INSIDE THE VEHICLE, HOLDING THE CHILD HOSTAGE.
DURING THE STANDOFF, A STATE POLICE OFFICER FIRED, STRIKING THE SUSPECT. THE MAN WAS AIRLIFTED TO AN AREA HOSPITAL, BUT THERE’S NO WORD ON HIS CONDITION. THE CHILD WAS RESCUED AND WAS NOT HARMED.
