THE NEW MEXICO SENATE HAS PASSED A BILL OUTLAWING COYOTE-KILLING CONTESTS. THE MEASURE NOW GOES TO THE HOUSE. THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN REPORTS THAT MOST RURAL SENATORS OPPOSED THE BILL, SAYING IT INFRINGES ON COUNTY GOVERNMENTS WHICH SHOULD HAVE A SAY IN WHETHER THE CONTESTS ARE BANNED.
HALF-A-DOZEN AMENDMENTS WERE PROPOSED THAT WOULD HAVE WEAKENED THE BILL…BUT ALL FAILED.
