NEW MEXICO VOICES FOR CHILDREN DISCOVERED HOW MUCH VOTERS IN THE STATE NOW THINK TWICE ABOUT APPROVING TAX HIKES. JAMES JIMENEZ WITH VOICES FOR CHILDREN SAYS IT’S MOSTLY BECAUSE THEY DON’T THINK THE MONEY GENERATED BY TAX HIKES … LIKE THE INCREASE APS SOUGHT IN PROPERTY TAXES RECENTLY … IS USED IN AREAS THEY THINK NEED BETTER FUNDING.
HE SAYS THE APS MILL LEVY AND BOND ISSUE THAT WOULD HAVE RAISED PROPERTY TAXES JUST UNDER 5 PERCENT WAS TOO HIGH … AND SAYS IT SEEMS MOST OF THE MORE THAN 800 VOTERS THEY POLLED DON’T TRUST APS AND OTHER ENTITIES ANYMORE.
JIMENEZ SAYS A LOT OF THE PEOPLE THEY POLLED WANT TO SEE TAX INCREASE REVENUE GO TO PAYING TEACHERS BETTER SALARIES. VOTERS ARE ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT’S NOT BEING SPENT TO CORRECT BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.
