Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Rio Arriba County Sheriff Billy Merrifield has died unexpectedly. The 50-year-old lawman was found dead in his home in Espanola Sunday morning, with a cause of death not yet released.
New Mexico State Police are investigating. Espanola Police posted on their Facebook page “Sheriff Merrifield served with honor, courage and an unwavering dedication to protecting others.”
