Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A new alcohol tax of 6-percent passed a State House committee Wednesday, and how heads to the Taxation and Revenue Committee. Representative Lara Cadena says it aims to help those most harmed by alcohol abuse. Opponents say the new tax on alcohol would create a multi-million dollar bureacracy, rather than helping anyone overcome alcohol abuse. The new tax was approved by the committee’s Democrats, opposed by the Republicans.
