
Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Metropolitan Detention Center Officer seen in the now viral video of the Courtroom attack is being honored for bravery. According to the county, the Officer Steven Jackson is being recognized for his actions during an assault on an inmate in a courtroom Friday. While escorting Inmate Alexander Segura Ortiz, Jackson intervened when a man jumped the railing and attacked Ortiz. Jackson used his taser to protect the inmate and separate the attackers. Warden Kai Smith says, Officer Jackson’s composure under pressure was outstanding. Jackson suffered minor injuries and has been with MDC since 2007. Ortiz was treated at UNM Hospital and released. Two men were arrested by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
