Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — 36 year old Alex Barraza of Albuquerque was sentenced to life in prison by a federal judge in El Paso on Thursday. Barraza is the leader of the Barraza Drug Trafficking Organization, with ties to Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel. Prosecutors stated that the group imported an estimated 1,500 pounds of methamphetamine from Mexico for distribution in Albuquerque, and smuggled $1.7 million in cash into Mexico. Barraza has filed an appeal notice.
