Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The UNM Cancer Center is one of three cancer centers to be awarded an $11 million federal grant to study treatments and biomarkers for uterine cancers. Dr. Kimberly Leslie, a research professor at the school says, the Route 66 SPORE grant comprises three projects, two of which focus on high risk cancers that arise from mutations in cellular DNA. Leslie adds, that the incidence rate of uterine cancer has been increasing because of the obesity epidemic. Leslie explains that studies have shown intensive exercise and diet control have shown to have a positive effect on treatment outcomes.
