Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD Chief Harold Medina says the city is seeing a significant reduction in murders involving firearms, shootings with injury, and gunshots. The chief referring to a report released on Friday showing Albuquerque is experiencing decreases in three major gun-related crime categories, so far in 2024, as compared to the same time period in 2023. The number of non-negligent murders involving firearms is down 32% year-to-date between 2023 and 2024. While the number of non-fatal shootings is also down with 11% fewer gunshot victims in 2024 compared to 2023. In addition, gunfire captured by ShotSpotter activations is down 26% from January through July 2024, compared to the same time period in 2023. Medina adding, we have more work to do, but these crime stats are encouraging.
