BernCo Commissioners act on NM Department of Justice report

Bernalillo County, NM (KKOB) — The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners plans a special public meeting on Tuesday, June 18, to address the New Mexico Department of Justice investigation.

The New Mexico Department of Justice concluded that a rolling quorum occurred prior to the April 9, 2024 resolution outlining the process to hire the next county manager.

To rectify the issue, the New Mexico Department of Justice recommends actions including the County Commission vote again on the same resolution (AR2024-43). If the resolution is ratified by a majority vote, the county manager search process will proceed as planned, with the selection of a new county manager before the end of the month.

“I acknowledge receipt of the Department of Justice determination on the open meeting investigation,” says Commission Chair Barbara Baca. “We appreciate that the Department of Justice thanks us for our cooperation during the investigation, and we will expeditiously implement the DOJ’s recommended curative actions.”

The special meeting to vote on resolution AR2024-43 will be held in the Ken Sanchez Commission Chambers, June 18, at 3:30 p.m.

Current County Manager Julie Morgas Baca announced plans to retire June 30.
