Summer lunch program kicks off Monday in Bernalillo County

Bernalillo County, NM (KKOB) — Bernalillo County’s Summer Lunch Program is back and ready to serve thousands of free meals to kids this summer. The program kicks off Monday, June 3 in the unincorporated areas of the county, outside the city limits.

Meals will be served at community centers, parks, apartment complexes, and mobile home parks in the South Valley, North Valley, East Mountains and Paradise Hills area with most sites operating from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m.

  • Participants must be between the ages of one to 18 years old to receive a meal.
  • Meals must be consumed at the meal site.
  • All meals are served on a first come, first served basis.
  • Participants must receive the entire meal, including milk.

We are happy to be able to provide children free meals, once again this year. Last summer Bernalillo County handed out nearly 100,000 meals which just proves the importance of this program,” says Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca.

The Summer Lunch Program is funded by a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant administered by the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department.
