Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Verus® Research, a New Mexico-based team of scientists and engineers specializing in advanced research and development, announces the award of a $2.5 million science and technology contract with the Defense Department’s Test Resource Management Center (TRMC). The 18-month agreement will support TRMC’s need
for high-power microwave (HPM) attack instrumentation on medium unmanned aerial systems
(UAS).
“Verus Research is honored to receive a new HPM contract that continues our research and
development work with the Defense Department and leverages many of our existing HPM sensor
systems currently in use by our customers,” said Dr. J. Mark DelGrande, chief technology officer
at Verus Research. “The company’s strength in developing novel, compact HPM instrumentation
and hardened RF range communication will support HPM counter-UAS weapon system testing
on Defense Department test ranges.”
Verus Research will develop a minimally-invasive HPM sensor for use on small group 1 & 2
UASs. Considered groundbreaking with its small size and technical ability, it will capture HPM
waveform characteristics in the air and telemetered to the ground in testing situations, according
to DelGrande.
