Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives say 28-year old Paul Arthur Lopez is a suspect in Thursday’s shooting death of Marvin Riley at the trailhead of a popular hiking trail. Lopez turned himself into police Saturday evening. He declined to make a statement and is booked into the Metro Detention Center on his warrant.
Witnesses told detectives Riley, 37, was sitting in his car and watching the sunset from the parking lot of the Embudo Trailhead, located at 13921 Indian School Rd., N.E. A man, later identified as Lopez, approached Riley and an argument ensued. Witness said Lopez fired a single shot, striking Riley. Riley collapsed and later died from his injury.
Witnesses identified the green SUV that Lopez was driving as he fled the scene. Detectives tracked the SUV to an apartment complex located at 801 Locust N.E. Field officers located the vehicle within an hour of the shooting. The vehicle was sealed and toward, pending a search warrant.
Another witness was able to identify Lopez from a photo line-up, and homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for him.
