APD Fatal Crash Unit investigating Friday night accident

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Unit is investigating a crash that occurred on the evening of March 1, 2024.

At around 9:30p.m., officers were called to the area of Montgomery Blvd. NE and Shenandoah Pl. NE for a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist. Through the investigation witnesses stated that there was a large group of motorcycles traveling east on Montgomery and a silver Lexus SUV was traveling west on Montgomery.  When the group of motorcyclists passed Shenandoah, they stated that the Lexus SUV crossed Montgomery making a left hand turn headed south on Shenandoah, just after the group passed and in front of the witness and another motorcyclist. 

One of the motorcycles, a green Kawasaki Ninja, struck the passenger rear of the Lexus.  The motorcycle then crashed and the motorcycle driver struck the roadway. The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead on scene.  The witness pulled over to administer aid and called police. The Lexus did not stop, and fled from the scene.

The Lexus was later located and the driver identified. The driver stated that she did not see any other vehicles and crossed eastbound Montgomery in front of two motorcycles. 

The incident is currently under investigation by APD’s Fatal Crash Unit.
