Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller has appointed a new Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the City of Albuquerque. Patrick Montoya, formerly the Director of the Department of Municipal Development, comes into the role with over five decades of management experience and extensive knowledge of City government and operations.
“We look forward to the continuity and expertise that Pat will bring into the new role,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “He is dedicated to our city and has a proven record of getting things done for Albuquerque. We’re happy to have him on our team as we continue to work to improve the lives of everyone who calls this place home.”
“I’ve been fortunate to work with some of my favorite people at the City and see how the many different departments contribute to making Albuquerque the best place for families. At DMD, I’ve been proud to be a part of the team responsible for building Albuquerque’s roads and public buildings,” said Patrick Montoya, Chief Operations Officer. “Now, I look forward to bringing my experience to the COO position and joining the team that will continue to grow the city.”
Montoya has broad experience in education and in government, and has held positions of increasing responsibility at the State, Federal and municipal levels. He started his management career as the Director for Head Start in Santa Fe, and prior to working at the City, Mr. Montoya served as an aide to U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman, where he worked on a broad portfolio of issues. He also served as the Secretary of Transportation at the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Division Director for the State’s Labor Department.
At the City, he’s worked for a variety of departments and held several positions that have prepared him with broad experience for this new role, including Director of the Department of Municipal Development, which manages all construction and road projects in the city, as a Capital Improvement Program Official, where he was responsible for the coordination, planning, and implementation of the City’s Capital Improvement Program, and also as the Deputy Director of the Department of Family and Community Services.
Patrick is filling the role after Kevin Sourisseau became the City’s Chief Financial Officer in January.
