APD investigating another fatal crash involving pedestrian

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD’s Fatal Team is investigating a Saturday overnight vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian at Tramway and Montgomery Blvd.

The vehicle, a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser, was southbound on Tramway in the left lane. A witness stated the vehicle appeared to be going the speed limit. The pedestrian, who is unidentified at this time, was crossing Tramway from west to east. The witness stated the pedestrian jumped off the curb as if he was attempting to get across the street before the vehicle crossed the intersection.

The witness stated they were stopped for the red light to turn from east to north, so the north and southbound traffic had the green light. The pedestrian was then struck by the vehicle, dying on scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stated he was in the left lane going southbound on Tramway and was driving about 50 mph, which is the speed limit. He stated as he entered the intersection, he saw a blur in front of his vehicle and he struck the pedestrian.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash. The crash appears to be pedestrian error.

The investigation is still on going.
