Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in New Mexico, drivers in Farmington are paying the most on average at $3.51 per gallon while drivers in the Santa Fe area are paying the least at $2.78 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.12, which is the same as last week and a penny less than last year.

Gas prices throughout the Mountain Region of the U.S. generally dropped over the past week, while most other regions of the country held steady or experienced increases. “New Mexico is set to wrap up 2023 with its third highest annual gas price average ever,” said AAA New Mexico spokesperson Doug Shupe. “This year’s New Mexico annual price average will be about $3.44 a gallon, which is 37 cents lower than the 2022 annual statewide price average of $3.81 and two cents lower than the 2012 annual statewide average of $3.46.”
