APD investigating critical-injury crash involving pedestrian

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD investigators responded to a crash that caused critical injuries to a pedestrian in the area of Central Ave. and Indiana St., S.E.

Investigators determined that a red Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on Central Ave. The vehicle was traveling about 25–30 mph due to slowed traffic. The driver noted a group of people at the bus stop near Indiana St. As the vehicle got to the bus stop, a female pedestrian stepped off the curb in front of the Subaru. The Subaru struck the female with the front end of the vehicle.

The female was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

There were no signs of impairment with the driver. Speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash. The posted speed limit is 35 mph.  Based on evidence and witness interviews, it appears the crash was caused due to the pedestrian stepping into the roadway.
