APD arrests two more suspects in July 4th homicide

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD officers arrested two more suspects for the July 4, 2023, murder of Alfonso Aguilar during a carjacking in Southeast Albuquerque.

Officers arrested Lacey Cormier, 40, and Joseph Griego, 28, for shoplifting today. They learned Cormier and Griego had arrest warrants for the July 4 murder. A third suspect, Juan Delarosa, was arrested in October for his role in the shooting death.

Aguilar was able to talk briefly to detectives shortly after the shooting on July 4 in the parking lot of a hotel at 6718 Central Ave., S.E. Aguilar said he was sitting in his vehicle when a male approached him and asked for cigarettes. After telling the man, “no,” the man ordered Aguilar to get out of the truck and pulled out a gun. Aguilar said he exited his truck and the man sat in the driver’s seat. Two other people got into the truck and the man attempted to drive away. Aguilar said he grabbed onto the driver’s door of the truck and he was shot in the chest.

Aguilar was transported to the hospital. He died four days later as a result of his gunshot wound.

Officers located the stolen vehicle on July 7 at 3802 2nd St NW. A handgun was found in the vehicle when a search warrant was executed.

Cormier and Griego are charged with first degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit first degree murder, shooting at or from a vehicle, resulting in death, and tampering with evidence.
