Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives arrested two murder suspects in separate locations today. The suspects are charged in the fatal shooting death of Nicolas Candelaria on Nov. 1 at a residence in the Barelas neighborhood.
Downtown officers arrested Lanise Padilla this morning after stopping her for not having a license plate. Padilla was arrested for her murder warrant. Officers sealed and towed the vehicle Padilla was driving, which is believed to have been used during the homicide.
Detectives tracked down Richard Anderson, the second suspect, at a residence located at 1043 Marapi St NW. Anderson eventually exited the residence tonight and was taken into custody by detectives.
Homicide detectives determined through investigation that Anderson, 24, and Padilla, 23, drove to Candelaria’s home at 509 Atlantic Ave., S.W. in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 in an attempt to rob him after arranging to buy 1 gram of cocaine. Anderson allegedly approached the residence and shot Candelaria three times as Candelaria appeared to be reaching for a gun. Anderson left with the cocaine and fled the area.
Anderson and Padilla are charged with an open count of murder, conspiracy, tampering with evidence, and robbery
