Portales, NM (KKOB) — The Eastern New Mexico University Friends of Music welcomes the ENMU community to the 55th annual Pops Concert on Saturday, November 11, at 7 p.m. at the ballroom in the University Campus Union Building.
“The concert will feature the talents of the ENMU Swanee Singers performing music from Broadway classics, including White Christmas, Hairspray, and She Loves Me, among others,” said Dustin Seifert, ENMU Department of Music Chair. “The ENMU Wind Symphony will perform music selected based on an Americana theme in recognition of Veteran’s Day. The concert will include a performance of Morton Gould’s classic Santa Fe Saga and much, much more.”
A “name that tune” contest will also be part of the evening festivities, with the winner directing “Stars and Stripes Forever” before a final medley in recognition of Veterans Day.
“This will be my first Pops concert, and I’m very much looking forward to the event,” said James Johnston ENMU Chancellor. “This is one of the first events mentioned to me upon my arrival as a “not to be missed” concert. Our Music Department is a stellar collection of talent, and I know I will agree.”
Initiated in the 1960s as a community-based support for instrumental and vocal performance students at ENMU, the Friends of Music actively supports musical excellence on the high plains. Through performance and leadership scholarships and their support of the Department’s Guest Artist series, the Friends of Music help attract and retain excellent music students to work with the Department’s stellar faculty.
