Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Animal Welfare Department (AWD) and Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres are partnering with Best Friends Animal Society’s National Adoption Weekend, Friday, September 16 through Sunday, September 18, at the Eastside and Westside shelters, and the Everyday Adoption Center located in the Eubank PetSmart.

The adoption fee is waived for all pets. Each adoption will include spay or neuter, a microchip, required vaccinations, and one free initial vet visit. For dogs, you will receive one free dog training class.

“This adoption event could not have come at a better time and we are so appreciative of Best Friends support,” said Carolyn Ortega, Director of Animal Welfare Department. “By adopting this weekend, you’re not only giving a pet a home, but helping keep other pet families together.”

Kennel Kompadres is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed in 2002 as a “friends of” Animal Welfare Department. Funding donated to Kennel Kompadres supports various AWD programs and initiatives. Best Friends has generously offered to donate money to Kennel Kompadres for every pet adopted from any of the shelter locations above this weekend to help AWD’s Intake Prevention program.

Best Friends Animal Society, a leading animal welfare organization working to save the lives of cats and dogs in America’s shelters by 2025, are teaming up for another adoption campaign to encourage people to choose to adopt, not buy, their next pet.
