THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IS REPORTING THE FIRST DEATH OF THE YEAR FROM HANTAVIRUS PULMONARY SYNDROME. A 42 YEAR OLD MCKINLEY COUNTY WOMAN DIED FROM THE VIRUS. THIS WAS THE SECOND CASE REPORTED SO FAR THIS YEAR WITIH THE FIRST ONE ALSO IN MCKINLEY COUNTY. STATE VETERINARIAN CAROL STEWART SAY IS URGING NEW MEXICANS TO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN OPENING UP AREAS WHERE DEER MICE MAY BE LIVING AS THE DEER MOUSE IS THE MAIN CARRIER OF THE VIRUS.
