Duke City Road Collapses

THERE’S A BIG PROBLEM IN THE ROADWAY ON SECOND STREET IN THE SOUTH VALLEY IN ALBUQUERQUE. DAVID MORRIS WITH THE CITY-COUNTY WATER UTILITY AUTHORITY SAYS THERE’S BEEN A ROAD COLLAPSE NEAR BRIDGE AND CESAR CHAVEZ, CAUSED BY ISSUES WITH A SEWER LINE. HE SAYS OLD CONCRETE SEWER LINES EVENTUALLY WEAR AWAY. WHEN THE EROSION REACHES A CERTAIN POINT, THE WEIGHT OF THE EARTH AND ASPHALT OVER THE PIPE WILL COLLAPSE IN ON THE PIPE AND CREATE A LARGE HOLE.

SECOND STREET IS CLOSED IN THAT AREA. MORRIS SAYS IT’LL TAKE TWO TO THREE WEEKS TO REPAIR.
